Listed here are some of the support services available to keep us connected, to help maintain community and well-being, and to continue learning and growing in spite of current social distancing measures. Each of these services is making special efforts to provide the assistance you need while ensuring your health and safety.
It’s likely that the biggest difficulties faced by students adapting to online classes will be technical ones. The IT Helpdesk is staffed during regular hours (7:30 – 5:00, Monday – Friday) so that they may answer your questions and assist you with any technical problems. Walk-in service is available through appointments only. Because of the anticipated increase in call volume, it may be to your advantage to email firstname.lastname@example.org rather than call in order to avoid busy signals.

Wi-fi Hotspots Around Mississippi
Many organizations are making their wireless networks accessible for online learning at this time. Our colleagues at the Mississippi University for Women have assembled this map of available networks in Mississippi. If you choose to use a public wireless network, please stay aware of your surroundings and maintain adequate separation from other people at all times. If the hotspot is located in a parking lot, you may want do your work while inside a locked car.
Free Wi-fi Locations Around the Country
Campus Technology has compiled and continues to maintain a list of companies that are providing either free Wi-fi services to students or by setting up Wi-fi hot spots where students can go to access free Wi-fi.
Health and Interpersonal Support
The Student Health Center is open for regular hours, but walk-in clients must have an appointment. Call 662-915-7274 to schedule one.
There are a number of mental health offices and resources available on campus that provide a range of services to faculty, staff, and students, as well as members of the larger Oxford-Lafayette County community, as needed.
Food Bank: Grove Grocery
The UM Food Pantry has regular operating hours in addition to grab-and-go bags, order forms, and meal swipes. Visit the Grove Grocery website for times and safety considerations.
UMatter – Support for Every Student
UMatter finds resources and provides information on caring for yourself and your peers. You may review the UMatter Resource List online. If you or someone you know is suffering distress, contact us for help at email@example.com.
Just Needing a Break?
During these stressful days, be sure to take some time to relax. If weather permits, take a walk outdoors and get some fresh air. If you want some interesting and educational diversions online, try the list of virtual engagement and activities compiled by Student Union leadership.
Academic Support Programs
The Center for Student Success and First-year Experience offers workshops and videos designed to help you succeed. Workshops and videos are available online.
All student advising will continue using alternate forms of communication. School advisors will be available for students not served by CSSFYE or Academic Support Programs. The following are school specific instructions:

Center for Student Success and First-Year Experience (CSSFYE)

FASTrack Learning Community
Our FASTrack team of staff and faculty are energetically working to engage our students in a remote learning community. Our priority is helping you navigate the many challenges you may encounter as the University transitions into virtual community & classroom spaces. While the FedEx Student-Athlete Success Center building will be restricted to visitors temporarily as communicated with appropriate signage, the FedEx SASC Staff will telecommute during this time and are available via phone/text/email; staff facilitate advising sessions, conduct and monitor academic support and virtual tutoring sessions through Zoom, Facetime, GoBoard and other appropriate programs and also provide career counseling and other appropriate student-athlete development need based programs. Staff has also ensured that all student-athletes have access to a working laptop (loaner as needed), reliable Wi-Fi access (loaner Hot Spot as needed) and Microsoft Office for their academic assignments.
Intensive English Program
International students who need additional English language support while classes are being taught online should visit the Intensive English Program website. The Intensive English Program will host virtual Learning Center hours for drop-in appointments as well. For more information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
The University of Mississippi Libraries encourage students to use their online services, which can be found on their home page. Special times, access, and restrictions for the Library are maintained on their website.
For the rest of the Fall 2020 semester, the J. D. Williams Library will have extended hours:

Student Disability Services
Remote learning can introduce additional complications for students having disabilities. If you are having difficulty participating in one or more of your classes due to a disability, we encourage you to reach out to Student Disability Services for assistance. Their staff will work with your instructor to find ways to accommodate your disability so that you may continue to participate.
Supplemental Instructions (CETL)
Students who are enrolled in SI-supported courses for Spring 2020 will have the opportunity to participate in SI remotely. SI Sessions will be conducted synchronously via Zoom following the established Fall 2020 SI Schedule.
The University Writing Centers have made changes to their services due to COVID-19 safety concerns. Both live chat and correspondence appointments are available. Visit the Writing Centers website for more information and step by step instructions for reserving an appointment.
The Graduate Writing Center (GWC) has customized services for graduate students and offers online consultations. The GWC has synchronous live-chat appointments available six days a week.
